Caramelised Onion and Potato Bake

For Onion

medium onions sliced 3 pc

Sauce & Seasoning

salt 1 pinch

For Potato

Main Ingredient

Maris piper potatoes sliced 700 g

Spice & Herb

garlic minced 5 cloves 
chopped fresh rosemary 1 tbsp
chopped fresh thyme 1 tbsp
ground nutmeg 0.5 tsp
white pepper 1 tsp

Sauce & Seasoning

double cream 200 ml
whole milk 100 ml
Salt good pinch



garlic 1 clove
cheddar cheese


  • Caramelize the onion on a low heat with a pinch of salt

  • Add the cream, milk, garlic, rosemary, thyme, nutmeg, pepper and salt to a mixing bowl

  • Stir through the potatoes with cream mix

  • Rub oven proof dish with garlic then layer the potatoes with a layer of onion in the center 

  • Pour over the cream mix

  • Cover with foil and bake at 180c for 1 hour

  • Remove the foil top with cheese and cook for a further 20 mins




  • 1 pound=16 ounces=453 g ; 1 tablespoon=15 g ; 1 teaspoon=5 g
